Trust & Safety

Last updated: May 2026

At HouseHub, we want connecting with a home-service professional to feel straightforward and trustworthy. This page explains the steps we take to support a safe, reliable platform — and, just as importantly, what those steps do and do not mean. HouseHub is a search and connection platform: we help Homeowners find independent Professionals, but we do not perform, supervise, or guarantee their work. Please read this page together with our Terms of Service, Acceptable Use Policy, and Privacy Policy.

1. How We Support Trust on HouseHub

We take several steps designed to support a trustworthy experience:

  • Profile review and approval — before a Professional's profile becomes visible or can receive Job Requests, our team reviews and approves it.
  • Badges and status — we may show badges or labels (such as “verified” or “premium”) that reflect a completed step or a paid subscription tier.
  • Reviews from real connections — ratings and reviews come from Homeowners and help others make informed choices.
  • Content moderation — we use a combination of automated tools and human review to detect and act on harmful, abusive, or unlawful content and search activity.
  • Secure, passwordless sign-in — we use email magic links and one-time codes (and optional trusted sign-in providers) so there is no password for you to manage or for others to steal.
  • Privacy and data protection — we protect your information using encryption and access controls, as described in our Privacy Policy.

2. What Our Checks Do — and Do Not — Mean

It is important to understand the limits of these steps. Our profile review is a basic check — it is not a background check, a credit check, or a verification of a Professional's identity, licensing, insurance, qualifications, or the quality or safety of their work. Badges, labels, and approval indicate only that a Professional completed a step or subscribes to a paid tier; they are not an endorsement, certification, guarantee, or warranty by HouseHub. HouseHub does not vet Home Services and does not guarantee any Professional, Homeowner, or outcome. You should always use your own judgment and due diligence.

3. Know Before You Hire (for Homeowners)

Before you hire a Professional, we strongly encourage you to:

  • confirm the Professional's licence(s) for the trade and your province, where licensing is required;
  • ask for proof of insurance and, where relevant, bonding;
  • check references and read reviews;
  • get a written quote and a clear written agreement before work begins;
  • make sure any required permits are obtained;
  • take normal precautions when someone visits your home; and
  • keep payments and communication on terms you are comfortable with.

HouseHub never collects payment for Home Services and will never ask you to pay a Professional through us. Any payment arrangement is strictly between you and the Professional.

4. For Professionals

Professionals help keep HouseHub trustworthy by keeping licences, certifications, and insurance current and valid; complying with all applicable laws; describing their business and credentials honestly; honoring commitments to Homeowners; and communicating professionally. You are responsible for the conduct of your team and the work you perform. See our Acceptable Use Policy for the full rules.

5. Protecting Your Account & Privacy

We protect your information using industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest. You can help keep your account secure by keeping access to your email account secure, reviewing your account for anything unexpected, and signing out on shared devices. Learn more in our Privacy Policy.

6. Reporting a Concern

If you come across a profile, review, message, or behavior that seems fraudulent, abusive, unsafe, or otherwise against our rules, please tell us at support@househub.ca. We review reports and take appropriate action, which may include removing content or suspending accounts. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

7. Our Role & Limits

HouseHub connects two parties; we are not a party to any agreement between a Homeowner and a Professional, and we are not responsible or liable for Home Services, for any User's conduct, or for the outcome of any connection made through the Platform. Your interactions and transactions with other Users are at your own risk. This page is provided for your information and does not change or expand our responsibilities; your use of the Platform is governed by our Terms of Service.
