This Cookie Policy explains how HouseHub (“we”, “us”, or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on the HouseHub website and applications (the “Platform”). It supplements, and should be read together with, our Privacy Policy.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies include local storage and pixels. They let a website recognize your device, remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how the site is used. Cookies set by HouseHub are “first-party” cookies; cookies set by others are “third-party” cookies.
We use cookies and similar technologies only for purposes that are necessary or helpful for the Platform to work. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not track you across other companies' websites for advertising.
Strictly necessary. These are required for the Platform to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They include cookies that keep you signed in (authentication and session), maintain security, and support core features. Without them, parts of the Platform will not work.
Functional / preferences. These remember choices you make to improve your experience — for example, a cookie that stores your selected or detected location (city, province, postal area), a flag that remembers when you have dismissed an information banner, and your language preference.
Analytics. We use our own first-party, privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the Platform is used so we can improve it. We set an analytics session cookie named hh_sid that holds a randomly generated session identifier and expires after about 30 minutes of inactivity, and we store a pseudonymous visitor identifier in your browser's local storage so we can tell a returning visit from a first-time one. With these we record which pages you view and basic visit and session patterns. This analytics is pseudonymous — it uses random identifiers, not your name, and it is not a device or browser fingerprint — and it does not capture the content of your searches. It is never used for advertising or cross-site tracking, uses no third-party trackers, and is not sold. When you are signed in, your visits may be associated with your account.
In addition to cookies, the Platform may use your browser's local storage and related technologies — for example, to register your device for web-push notifications if you enable them, to temporarily preserve information (such as a draft Job Request) so you don't lose it, or to store the pseudonymous analytics identifiers described above (a persistent random visitor id, hh_vid, and the last-seen session id, hh_lsid) that let us distinguish a returning visit from a first-time one.
The main first-party cookies and storage items the Platform uses are:
location — category: functional. Purpose: remember your selected or detected location (city, province, postal area) so we can show relevant Professionals. Lifetime: about 7 days, refreshed with activity.hh_sid — category: analytics. Purpose: holds a randomly generated session identifier so we can count visits and tell one visit from another. Lifetime: expires after about 30 minutes of inactivity.hh_vid and hh_lsid (local storage) — category: analytics. Purpose: a pseudonymous, randomly generated visitor identifier and the last-seen session id, used to distinguish a returning visit from a first-time one. Lifetime: persistent until you clear your browser storage. Some features rely on third-party services that may set their own cookies when you use them — for example, maps and location lookup (Mapbox), sign-in providers (Google, Facebook, X), and payment processing at checkout (Stripe). These services use cookies under their own privacy and cookie policies, which we encourage you to review.
Most browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies through their settings. You can choose to refuse or remove cookies, but please note that if you block strictly necessary cookies, you may not be able to sign in or use key parts of the Platform. To manage cookies set by third-party services, use the controls described in those providers' policies and your browser settings.
We honor your browser's Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals: when either is on, we automatically turn off our first-party analytics for you. You can also opt out of our first-party analytics directly using the control below. Opting out stops our hh_sid analytics session and page-view capture; it does not affect strictly necessary or functional cookies, so you can still sign in and use the Platform normally.
